Construct a Future are delighted to announce that our Stone masonry workshop that has been running since 2012 is now being fully funded directly by the prison. Our tutor Jonathan is now directly employed by HMP Rochester. We originally set this course up to fill an expanding skill shortage in Stone masonry and associated industries. The workshop was unique and interested a wide range of people.
This is a major milestone for our organisation and HMP Rochester and more importantly for the offenders who will benefit from this unique opportunity to learn a new skill and gain a city and guilds qualification thus increasing their employment opportunity. This work being valued and continued by the prison secures the future of the workshop and allows the charity to focus on developing other initiatives in the construction industry to fill current and emerging skill gaps.
During the 7 years the workshop has been open it has provided
- 8,155 Hours of purposeful activity
- 336 students attended
Some of the attendees have gone on to develop very successful careers in the construction industry including
- Safety Managers
- Shuttering Carpenters
- General Builders
Our aim is to continue to support the new Stone masonry team in finding employment opportunities for their candidates. We thank all those who have funded and taken part in this innovative project over the last 7 years demonstrating the talent that we have.
